He punched holes in the assertion by Justice Jones Dotse, a Supreme Court Judge, who in a rare interview, clarified a recent judgment of the apex court which had divided opinion.
Justice Dotse's comments were in respect of varying interpretations given to the Supreme Court's judgment on a case brought against the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Attorney-General by a former Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan and one Evans Nimako.

The respected judge, who was a panel member of the Supreme Court (SC) Justices who ordered the EC to delete NHIS Card registrants, stressed that the ruling was 'clear' and so urged people who misunderstand the ruling to return to the court.

USAG threatens lawsuit over limited registration exercise

The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG), has threatened to drag the Electoral Commission to court if it does not extend the duration of the limited registration exercise to enable more students on university campuses across the country to register. According to USAG, an extension will prevent students from being  disenfranchised. Various stakeholders have expressed concern about the inadequate number of registration centers on the various university campuses. USAG has already indicated that less than 10 percent of eligible student voters have been able to register, hence their call for the extension. Speaking to Citi News, President of USAG, Henry Nkosuo Boakye said USAG may be forced to take the EC to court if the situation persists. “We would follow the procedures as clearly enshrined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana and seek our reliefs. We will head to court. We will file a petition. We will file a petition and make the EC know that they are there to serve our interests and nothing more,” he stated. - See more at: http://citifmonline.com/2016/05/05/usag-threatens-lawsuit-over-limited-registration-exercise/

Deadly heat wave is shattering all-time records in Southeast Asia, India

Southeast Asia and India are currently enduring a historic and brutal heat wave that has already been blamed for more than 150 deaths and shows few signs of relenting.
April in Thailand is typically hot and sweaty, but this year's scorching weather has set a record for the longest heat wave in at least 65 years.
The temperature in Sukhothai, Thailand spiked to 44.3 degrees Celsius, or 111.7 degrees Celsius, on April 12 — just short of the all-time national record. Surrounding countries have set all-time temperature records for any month of the year during this April heat wave.
Chris Burt, a weather historian at Weather Underground, said Cambodia and Laos each set all-time record highs for any day of the year during this month. In Cambodia, Burt reported, the temperature climbed to 42.6 degrees Celsius, or 108.7 degrees Fahrenheit, in Preah Vihea on April 15.

Eastern region records over 25,285 teenage pregnancies in two years

Ghana Health Service (GHS) figures show that a total of 25,285 teenage girls got pregnant in the Eastern Region over the past two years.
Six hundred and sixty-nine (669) of these teenage mothers were aged between 10 and 14 years.
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality recorded the highest number of pregnancies - in excess of 3,000, during the period.
Mrs. Evelyn Owusu-Akyaw, an official of the GHS, made this known at a meeting held by the regional child and family welfare policy implementation committee in Koforidua to discuss matters relating to the protection and growth of children.
She hinted that about 3,000 teenage pregnancies were recorded during the first quarter of this year and said the figure could be higher considering the fact that not everybody would report to the health facilities.
To help reverse the trend and enable the young girls to focus on their education, she said that the GHS had set up ‘adolescent corners’ in all the facilities to deal exhaustively with adolescent issues.
Again, it had been working together with the Ghana Education Service (GES) on the formation of adolescent clubs in schools to educate the young people on reproductive health and discourage them having sex at the early age.
She also spoke of plans to aid those with mobile phones to ask questions and adequately access information on sexual and reproductive health, online.
Mr. Anthony Dontoh, Regional Director of the Department of Children, noted that teenage pregnancy, apart from its serious health implications, was also fueling the dropout rate among school girls.
About 90 per cent of girls in basic and junior high schools, who get pregnant,   do not return to school after giving birth with some of them married off.
Mr. Dontoh called for parents to be more responsive to child needs and ensure their proper upbringing.
