The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Isaac Adjei Mensah who made the assertion stated that government has allocated some funds, purposely to improve road infrastructure in the country. According to him, the move is also aimed at reducing road accidents in the country. Mr. Adjei Mensah made the assurance when he addressed a congregation at the 2nd CAT Road Construction Seminar in Accra.
‘‘Road transport plays a very vital role in any nation’s socio economic development. In Ghana, road transport accounts for 97% of passenger traffic, and 95% of freight,” he said. He stated that recent studies have indicated that Ghana has a huge shortfall in its infrastructure needs, hence the need to improve roads to enhance the welfare of Ghanaians. “In responding to this challenge, government is committed to providing the road infrastructure needed for development,” he said. In his speech, the Managing Director of Mantrac Ghana, Emad Adeeb pledged the company’s support to bring onboard latest machines and equipments to aid the country progress efficiently. ‘‘As marketing leaders we cannot sit and fold our arms when we have all the expertise to support contractors. In today’s competitive world of construction, contractors are facing a lot of challenges to maximize their productivity and lower their operation cost,” he said.
He explained that new technologies in machinery and production can significantly improve the output of projects in the country to enhance value for money. Touching on other areas of investments, Mr. Adeeb stated that the company is set to increase its investment in the mining, and oil and gas sectors. ‘‘We are currently undertaking an investment worth $40m for the construction CAT Engine Center to support Ghana and the West Africa Sub region in mining, oil and gas,” he said. He stated that the projects are expected to be completed by close of 2016.
