The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command has said rescue efforts are still underway to retrieve more bodies after a boat carrying about sixty people capsized on the River Volta on Sunday
. A rescue team managed to save a number of passengers but six children drowned before help came. Some of the survivors said more people may have drowned. The boat was said to be traveling from Nantwekope to Yeji. The Yeji District Police Commander, ASP Abraham Bansa told Citi News investigations are ongoing to establish the real cause of the incident.
“As of now six children are dead and their bodies have been retrieved but investigations are still ongoing to establish the real cause of the incident.” Early this month about fifteen people were rescued in another accident involving a ferry heading towards Yeji. In January, one person died while hundreds were rescued in February in two different accidents.
