The study concluded that after the N.F.L. agreed in 2012 to donate millions of dollars to concussion research, it tried to steer funding away from one of its critics.
Tony Gwynn in 1994. Gwynn, who died of salivary gland cancer in 2014, used one and a half to two cans of smokeless tobacco (usually Skoal) per day for 31 years.
